DRDGOLD Ltd CEO Niel Pretorius tells Proactive Investors that the gold-tailings company commissioned its first phase of the Far West Gold Recoveries project today in West Rand, South Africa.

DRDGOLD Limited has announced that, just four months into construction of Phase 1 of its Far West Gold Recoveries project, commissioning is set to start on Thursday (6 December) with the pumping of reclaimed tailings into the carbon-in-leach (CIL) circuit.

JSE-listed gold recovery company DRDGold’s Far West Gold Recoveries project, formerly the West Rand Tailings Retreatment project, is set to start pumping reclaimed tailings into the carbon-in-leach circuit on December 6.

Bullion producer DRDGold Limited on Monday announced that commissioning is set to start this week at its Far West gold recoveries project in Gauteng with the pumping of reclaimed tailings into the carbon-in-leach circuit, just four months into construction of the first phase.

When it comes to the gold sector, recovering the precious metal from dumps on surface beats pursuing it in deep, dark and dangerous underground mines.

DRDGold CEO, Niël Pretorius, said shareholders ought to capitalise on the firm’s investment in gold tailings from Sibanye-Stillwater which were paid for in shares and that allow the precious metals company the option of buying control of DRDGold.

Three major projects completed by surface gold mining company DRDGold are expected to boost the fortunes of the company’s Ergo plant on the East Rand.

DRDGold wants to join forces with other gold mining companies to the west of Johannesburg to construct a vast tailings retreatment and area clean-up. CEO Niël Pretorius, whose company is embarking on a R300m first phase of a tailings processing project, said on Wednesday the creation of a mega tailings retreatment facility would bring cost and environmental benefits to the historical mining area.

CEO of DRDGold, Neil Pretorious joined Business Day TV to elaborate more on reports that DRDGold reported operating profit for the year to end-June rose 38% to R355m from the previous year, with revenue up 6% to R2.49bn.
