DRD moves into top 40 on JSE

Durban Roodepoort Deep (DRD) is to be included in the Top 40 index of the new series of FTSE/JSE indices that are to be launched on 24 June 2002. The share will have a 100% weighting and a ranking of 30 in the index. DRD’s move from the mid-cap index to the Top 40 index follows the sharp increase in its share price in the last year. Its new ranking is based on the share’s market capitalisation as at 7 June, which amounted to R8.5 billion (at a share price of R50). This is compared to R770 million in July 2001. 118-DRD-jw

Durban Roodepoort Deep (DRD) is to be included in the Top 40 index of the new series of FTSE/JSE indices that are to be launched on 24 June 2002. The share will have a 100% weighting and a ranking of 30 in the index. DRD’s move from the mid-cap index to the Top 40 index follows the sharp increase in its share price in the last year. Its new ranking is based on the share’s market capitalisation as at 7 June, which amounted to R8.5 billion (at a share price of R50). This is compared to R770 million in July 2001.

Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of DRD, Mark Wellesley-Wood, said, "Shareholders have clearly demonstrated their support for DRD’s strategy and for gold. Although most of our shareholders are currently in the United States, our inclusion in this index will heighten awareness by South African index funds."
