The first group of five bursars are being sponsored this year. They are from a variety of institutions, including the Witwatersrand (WITS) and Potchefstroom Universities. Technikons are represented by Durban, Peninsula and the Free State. Of the bursar students, two are studying mechanical engineering, two are studying electrical engineering and one is studying metallurgy. Bursaries for the mining discipline will be offered to persons in the Learner Official Programme later this year.
Says Mark Wellesley-Wood, “We see these five people as our pioneering group and trust that similar bursar programmes will be undertaken in future. At a function to welcome the students to DRD, Wellesley-Wood wished them every success in their studies and careers and reiterated the group’s support for securing talented individuals to take the company to new heights.
